El Future Perfect Continuous (futuro perfecto continuo) es uno de los tiempos verbales más avanzados del inglés. Aunque no se utiliza tan frecuentemente como el Present Perfect o el Future Simple, es muy útil para expresar la duración de una acción que habrá estado ocurriendo hasta un momento determinado en el futuro.

¿Qué es el Future Perfect Continuous?

El Future Perfect Continuous se utiliza para hablar de una acción que habrá estado desarrollándose durante un período de tiempo antes de un momento específico del futuro.

El foco está en la duración de la acción.

By next July, I will have been working here for five years. → Para el próximo julio llevaré cinco años trabajando aquí.

Lo importante no es únicamente que siga trabajando, sino el tiempo que habrá transcurrido.

La estructura es la siguiente:

Afirmativa: Sujeto + will + have + been + verbo + ing

- I will have been studying.
- She will have been working.

Negativa: Sujeto + won’t + have + been + verbo + ing

El tiempo pone el foco en el proceso.

Consejos para dominar el Future Perfect Continuous

Recuerda que este tiempo siempre responde a la pregunta «¿Cuánto tiempo llevará ocurriendo esta acción?».

Busca expresiones como for, since, by y by the time, ya que suelen indicar que necesitas este tiempo verbal.

No olvides la estructura completa: will + have + been + verbo + ing.

Si lo importante es el resultado, probablemente debas usar el Future Perfect. Si lo importante es la duración, utiliza el Future Perfect Continuous.
